✨ Reflection

Today's Hukamnama gives us one of Gurbani's most vivid images of spiritual awakening and freedom:

“ਫੂਟੋ ਆਂਡਾ ਭਰਮ ਕਾ” — the egg of doubt has burst.

An egg surrounds what is inside it with a shell. In the same way, doubt, misunderstanding and false assumptions can create a shell around our mind.

We may become so accustomed to certain thoughts that we no longer question whether they are true.

Fear may tell us that we cannot change.

Ego may convince us that we are always right.

Attachment may make us believe that happiness depends upon possessing or controlling something.

Anger may convince us that holding resentment gives us strength.

Yet these beliefs can become walls around the mind.

Guru Sahib describes what happens when spiritual understanding enters:

“ਮਨਹਿ ਭਇਓ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ” — there is illumination within the mind.

Gurbani brings light.

When light enters a dark room, darkness does not need to be physically removed. Its presence disappears because something greater has entered.

Similarly, Guru Sahib's wisdom helps us see ourselves, our attachments and our priorities more clearly.

The second line develops this image further:

“ਕਾਟੀ ਬੇਰੀ ਪਗਹ ਤੇ” — the shackles have been cut from the feet.

These shackles can represent the inner patterns that prevent spiritual progress.

Ego.

Fear.

Anger.

Greed.

Attachment.

Jealousy.

Old resentments.

We may sometimes think freedom means being able to do whatever we want. Gurbani offers a deeper understanding.

True freedom is no longer being controlled by what once controlled us.

When anger no longer dictates our words, there is freedom.

When comparison no longer destroys gratitude, there is freedom.

When fear no longer controls every decision, there is freedom.

When Maya no longer determines our sense of worth, there is freedom.

And Guru Sahib tells us where that freedom begins:

with enlightenment through the Guru.

Reading Gurbani is therefore not simply about gathering information. The purpose is transformation — allowing Shabad to challenge our assumptions, illuminate the mind and gradually loosen the bonds that keep us spiritually trapped.

🙏 Message for Today

Ask yourself today:

What is one inner chain that I would like Guru Sahib to help me break?

Perhaps it is anger.

Perhaps fear.

Perhaps resentment, ego, comparison or attachment.

Bring it honestly before Guru Sahib.

Read Gurbani, remember Naam and allow spiritual wisdom to enter the places where confusion has remained.

ਫੂਟੋ ਆਂਡਾ ਭਰਮ ਕਾ ਮਨਹਿ ਭਇਓ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥

May Guru Sahib break the shell of doubt within us, remove the chains of ego and attachment, and illuminate our minds through Gurbani, Naam and Divine wisdom. 🙏
