✨ Daily Hukamnama Reflection – SGGS Ang 474

Jis ḏā ḏiṯā kẖāvṇā ṯis kahīai sābās.
Nānak hukam na cẖalī nāl kẖasam cẖalai arḏās.

🌿 English Meaning

Let us praise the One whose gifts nourish and sustain us. Guru Nanak Sahib Ji reminds us that no one can command the Lord and Master; before Him, what carries meaning is humble prayer — Ardas.

✨ Reflection

Today's Hukamnama brings together two essential qualities of spiritual life: gratitude and humility.

Guru Sahib first reminds us:

We live every day through gifts we did not create ourselves. The food on our plate, the air we breathe, the body carrying us through life, the people who support us and countless visible and invisible blessings all exist within Waheguru's creation and Hukam.

Yet human nature can quickly move from gratitude towards expectation. Once we receive one blessing, the mind begins asking for another. Sometimes even our prayers can gradually become instructions: “Waheguru, make this happen. Give me this. Remove this difficulty. Make everything happen according to my plan.”

The second line transforms that understanding:

Guru Nanak Sahib Ji reminds us that we cannot impose our command upon the Master.

This does not mean that we should stop asking Waheguru for help. Ardas is deeply meaningful. We can place our pain, hopes, worries and needs before Guru Sahib. But there is an important difference between Ardas and demand.

Ardas carries humility.

We may ask for what our heart desires, while recognising that our understanding is limited. Sometimes what we desperately want may not unfold as expected. At such moments, Gurbani teaches us not to lose faith but to seek the strength and wisdom to walk within Hukam.

True prayer gradually changes from:

“Give me exactly what I want”

to:

“Waheguru, You know what I need. Give me the wisdom, courage and acceptance to walk the path before me.”

Gratitude also transforms our perspective. Instead of constantly focusing on what is missing, we begin recognising what has already been given.

Every meal can become remembrance. Every breath can become gratitude. Every Ardas can become an act of surrender.

🙏 Message for Today

Before asking Waheguru for another blessing today, pause and remember three blessings you already have.

Then make your Ardas sincerely. Ask for what is in your heart, but leave the outcome with Waheguru.

May Guru Sahib bless us with gratitude for His countless gifts, humility in our Ardas and the spiritual strength to accept and walk within Waheguru's Hukam. 🙏
