🌿 English Meaning
When one offers to the Lord that which already belongs to the Lord, and willingly accepts the Divine Command, the Lord blesses that person abundantly. Guru Nanak Sahib Ji reminds us that our Lord and Master is forever merciful.
✨ Reflection
Today's Hukamnama teaches us about gratitude, surrender, generosity and acceptance of Waheguru's Hukam.
Guru Sahib begins with a profound thought:
We offer back to Waheguru what already belongs to Waheguru.
This changes the way we understand ownership.
We naturally say:
“My money.”
“My house.”
“My abilities.”
“My success.”
“My time.”
Yet Gurbani invites us to look more deeply.
Who gave us the body with which we work?
Who gave us the intelligence, opportunities and circumstances through which we earn?
Who gave us the breath that allows us to experience another day?
Everything we possess exists within Waheguru's creation and Hukam.
Recognising this does not mean that we should stop working, planning or building a good life. Rather, it removes the illusion that we are completely independent owners of everything around us.
This understanding naturally encourages Seva and generosity.
When we share food, money, time, knowledge or effort with someone else, we are sharing from blessings that were first entrusted to us.
The next line teaches another important lesson:
Accept the Divine Command willingly.
Accepting Hukam does not mean doing nothing or refusing to improve difficult circumstances.
We still work honestly. We still solve problems. We still fulfil our responsibilities.
But after making our sincere effort, we learn not to demand that life must unfold exactly according to our expectations.
Sometimes what we want arrives.
Sometimes something different happens.
Faith allows us to continue walking without losing our connection with Waheguru.
Guru Sahib then tells us:
The blessing that returns is described as many times greater.
That blessing does not have to mean only material wealth. A generous heart may receive contentment. Seva may bring humility. Acceptance may bring peace. Naam may give us strength that money cannot purchase.
And finally comes the reassurance:
Our Lord and Master is forever merciful.
Whatever stage of life we are passing through, Divine compassion remains.
🙏 Message for Today
Look at what Waheguru has already placed in your hands.
Your time. Your abilities. Your resources. Your opportunities.
Ask yourself:
How can I use some of these blessings for good today?
Give where you can. Serve where you can. Work sincerely.
And after doing your part, place the outcome in Waheguru's Hukam.
May Guru Sahib bless us with grateful hearts, generous hands, sincere Seva and the wisdom to accept Waheguru's Hukam with faith. 🙏
