🌿 English Meaning

The human body is sustained by water and food. A person enters this world carrying many hopes and expectations. But when death arrives, no door, barrier or worldly protection can prevent it.

✨ Reflection

Today's Hukamnama gives us a direct and powerful reminder about the temporary nature of human life.

Guru Sahib first brings our attention to the physical body. Despite all the importance we attach to appearance, strength, possessions and status, this body ultimately depends upon very basic necessities — water and food.

Then comes a deeply human observation:

We enter and live in this world carrying countless hopes.

We make plans for next week, next year and decades ahead. We work towards financial security, possessions, careers, family goals and personal ambitions.

There is nothing inherently wrong with planning responsibly. But Gurbani asks us not to become so absorbed in tomorrow that we forget the spiritual purpose of today.

The final line is deliberately powerful:

When the appointed end of physical life arrives, worldly barriers cannot prevent it.

Wealth cannot purchase another lifetime. Status cannot command death to wait. Possessions cannot accompany us forever.

This message could sound frightening if viewed only through fear. But Gurbani's purpose is deeper — to awaken us while we still have time.

Remembering mortality can actually teach us how to live more meaningfully.

If life is limited, perhaps an argument is not worth carrying for years.

If time is precious, perhaps Naam should not continually be postponed until “one day.”

If our possessions eventually remain behind, perhaps sharing some of what we have through Seva becomes more meaningful.

And if the people we love will not always be physically beside us, perhaps we should value them while we can.

The awareness of death does not have to diminish life. It can make every day more precious.

The question therefore is not simply, “How long will I live?”

A more meaningful question is:

“How am I using the life Waheguru has given me?”

🙏 Message for Today

Continue making plans for tomorrow — but do not sacrifice your entire today for them.

Take some time for Naam. Read Gurbani. Forgive where possible. Perform Seva. Appreciate your family. Speak kindly. Give thanks for the simple blessing of another day.

We cannot control how many breaths remain, but we can choose how we use the breath we have now.

May Guru Sahib bless us with the wisdom to understand life's temporary nature without fear, to value every breath and to use this precious human life in remembrance of Waheguru. 🙏
