✨ Daily Hukamnama Reflection – SGGS Ang 1426

Gun gobinḏ gāio nahī janam akārath kīn.
Kaho Nānak har bẖaj manā jih biḏẖ jal kao mīn.

🌿 English Meaning

If you do not sing the Praises of the Lord, this precious human life passes without fulfilling its spiritual purpose. Says Nanak: O mind, meditate upon and remember the Lord with the deep dependence and longing that a fish has for water.

✨ Reflection

Today's Hukamnama asks us to consider one of life's most important questions: what are we doing with this precious human birth?

Our days can easily become occupied with work, responsibilities, possessions, ambitions and worries. None of these responsibilities necessarily need to be abandoned, but Gurbani reminds us that if our entire life passes without developing a relationship with Waheguru, we have overlooked its deepest spiritual opportunity.

Guru Sahib gives us an exceptionally powerful image:

“ਜਿਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਲ ਕਉ ਮੀਨੁ” — as the fish is attached to water.

For a fish, water is not something remembered occasionally. It is its environment, its support and essential to its very existence.

Guru Sahib encourages us to develop that kind of relationship with Waheguru.

Naam Simran should therefore not belong only to difficult days, visits to the Gurdwara, or moments when we need something from Waheguru. Remembrance can become part of ordinary life—while travelling, working, walking, resting or quietly beginning the day.

The teaching is not simply about repeating words. It is about developing an inner connection in which the mind naturally turns towards its Creator.

A fish separated from water cannot remain content. In the same way, the spiritually awakened heart begins to recognise that worldly achievements alone cannot provide lasting fulfilment.

This Hukamnama is therefore not intended to make us fearful about life being “wasted.” It is an invitation to use the life we have now.

Every new breath is another opportunity to remember Naam, practise gratitude, serve others, read Gurbani and bring our mind closer to Waheguru.

🙏 Message for Today

Do not postpone your relationship with Waheguru until life becomes quieter.

Begin where you are.

Even a few sincere moments of Naam Simran each day can gradually change the direction of the mind.

May Guru Ram Das Ji bless us with such love for Naam that remembrance of Waheguru becomes as natural and essential to our soul as water is to a fish. 🙏
