In the month of Assu, love for the Lord wells up within me. How may I go and meet Him? My mind and body deeply thirst for the Blessed Vision of His Darshan. O mother, may someone come and unite me with my Beloved Lord.
(Punjabi - Gurmukhi):
The first day of Assu begins with a beautiful expression of longing for Waheguru. Guru Sahib describes a love so deep that both mind and body thirst for Divine Darshan.
In worldly life, we long for many things—success, possessions, relationships, recognition and comfort. Gurbani turns our attention towards a deeper question: does our heart carry the same longing for Waheguru?
Spiritual longing itself is a blessing. When the heart begins to yearn for Naam, Gurbani, Simran and the Guru's presence, our priorities gradually change. What once seemed essential can become secondary to the peace found in Divine remembrance.
The words “ਕੋਈ ਆਣਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ” also remind us of the importance of the Guru and Sangat. We do not walk the spiritual path entirely alone. Gurbani, the Guru's wisdom and the company of those who inspire Naam help guide the mind towards Waheguru.
At the beginning of Assu, ask yourself what your heart truly longs for. Nurture your love for Waheguru through Gurbani, Naam Simran and Sangat, and let that Divine longing guide your life.
🙏 Shared with gratitude to Guru Ram Das Ji for His endless blessings 🙏
