Antique A. Tubeuf Paris Brass Binoculars WW1 Era Army Military Field Glasses French Leather Collectable

📜 A Piece of Military-Era Optical History

An impressive pair of antique A. Tubeuf Paris brass and leather field binoculars, believed to date from the early 20th century / WWI era.

The bridge is clearly marked:

A. TUBE…

PARIS

A. Tubeuf of Paris is a documented French optical maker whose binoculars were supplied for military use during the First World War period. Surviving documented examples include A. Tubeuf binoculars made for British military use, including Mk V models dating from around 1916–1917.

This makes these fascinating not only as antique binoculars but also as a collectable example of the type of French optical equipment associated with the WWI military period.

🎖️ Provenance & Our Find

We acquired these approximately two years ago from a long-established militaria seller at a British antiques/boot fair, a dealer specialising in old military items including WWI and WWII militaria, helmets, artillery-related items and other period pieces.

They have remained with us since.

Although A. Tubeuf binoculars are documented as having been supplied for military use during WWI, we have not identified a British military broad-arrow or other definitive issue marking on this particular pair. We therefore sell them as an authentic antique A. Tubeuf Paris item rather than claiming documented military provenance for this individual pair.

Their age, patina and wear have deliberately been left intact.

📌 Condition – Please Read

This is an antique item believed to be over 100 years old and is sold in its existing vintage condition.

There is substantial age-related wear throughout, including tarnishing and oxidation to the brass, scratches, marks, paint loss, surface wear, discolouration, worn leather, exposed/loose stitching and general signs of long-term use and storage.

The lenses also show age-related marks/dust/wear.

It has deliberately NOT been polished or restored.

Please study all photographs and video carefully as these form an important part of the description and show the actual item you will receive.

Due to its age, this is primarily offered as an antique collectable/display item rather than guaranteed modern-performance binoculars.

Only the binoculars shown are included. No case is included.

❓ FAQs

Are these genuine antique binoculars?

Yes. These are an old A. Tubeuf Paris optical instrument displaying extensive natural age, wear and patina.

Are they from WWI?

The construction is consistent with early-20th-century/WWI-era A. Tubeuf field glasses, and A. Tubeuf Paris is documented as a manufacturer of binoculars used by the British military during WWI. However, we have not found definitive military issue markings on this particular pair, so we do not claim that their individual wartime service is documented.

Are they Army binoculars?

A. Tubeuf Paris binoculars are documented in surviving British military examples. These are therefore highly relevant to Army/militaria collectors, but the exact military service history of this particular pair is unknown.

Have they been restored?

No. We have intentionally retained the aged brass, leather and patina.

Can I use them?

The mechanism and optics are present, but because of their considerable age they are being sold primarily as a historical collectable/display piece. We do not guarantee optical performance equivalent to modern binoculars.

Will I receive the exact pair photographed?

Yes. This is a unique one-off antique. You will receive the exact item shown.
